Vcom 48 :: Self-Paced Tutorial

Archive

Welcome to the Visual Communications (VCOM) program and to this class. The school technicians are installing the most recent version of the Adobe Creative Suite 5 one day before school starts. Since I have to tweak the tutorial/manual based on the installation, and I won’t see it until school starts on August 18th, there will be a delay in getting the tutorial uploaded to this site for you to use! The manual for this class will be available starting AUGUST 23, 2010 at 5PM. Regardless, Please read everything in this note do the tasks requested.

You have until the end of the semester to complete the work in the tutorial, but the SOONER you do it the easier it will be for you to do your work in your other VCOM courses.

VCOM 48 is a SELF-PACED TUTORIAL COURSE. This course is ODD because it has NO scheduled meeting time. You will not be working together as a group or directly with me. Instead you will do work in the studio on your own, mostly un-aided.* We will communicate with each other through e-mail, through this website, and directly in the studio when I am there doing my studio time for any of my classes. The sooner you complete your tutorial, the easier it will be for you to learn in all the other classes. If you find any issues or have questions in the tutorial/manual that you feel everyone should know, use this BLOG as a way to tell everyone, including me.

HERE’S HOW TO DO YOUR VCOM 48 WORK AND EARN YOUR “A”

1. TODAY: Write me immediately that you have read this note. Receiving an e-mail from you TODAY is how I will take “opening-day” attendance in this class. It is MANDATORY that you write to me NOW! my e-mail is fcassidy@laspositascollege.edu. Include “VCOM 48″ in the SUBJECT header, and write your full name and any contact info you wish me to have in the body of the note.

2. THE DAY you DOWNLOAD the tutorial/manual, E-MAIL ME TO LET ME KNOW YOU YOU HAVE IT. Once again, use “VCOM 48″ in the subject header, and include your full name in the body of the note.

2. Start reading the tutorial/manual pdf and then go to the VCOM studio (Buildng 300, Room 300) to do the work described in the pdf. You may sit anywhere there is room and a free computer. Do NOT disturb the ongoing class. Refer to the schedule available on this site to see which classes meet when and to see my office hours.

3. WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED reading the tutorial/manual and doing the tasks in it, E-MAIl ME to look at your folder on the server. (by now you know the drill…..!)

4. I will check your work on the server.

5. If everything looks good, I will send you the instructions for obtaining the TEST FOLDER.

6. Complete the tests in the folder. E-mail me one last time to say that you have completed the tests.

7. If you satisfactorily complete the tasks, will receive an “A”. I will e-mail you to acknowledge your grade.

Please NOTE:

Even if you are able to do the majority of your work at home, you MUST place your required folders and files on the server that is available ONLY when you are in studio 300.

The schedule for the studio is downloadable from the left tab of every page of this site. It includes my office hours.

*IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE, please E-MAIL ME to schedule an appointment for one-on-one instruction.

I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Sincerely, Fredda Cassidy
